LEICA DC Lens with Folded Optics Technology

The DMC-TS3 features a high-quality LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR 28mm wide-angle lens with a 4.6x optical zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 28-128mm).

The folded optics of shaft guide method is adopted to secure the toughness of the lens unit. This lens unit comprises 10 elements and a prism unit in 8 groups, including an ED lens and 5 aspherical lenses with 6 aspherical surfaces passing the Leica’s stringent standards to deliver exceptional optical performance to the edges.

The DMC-TS3 is drop proof from a height up to 2.0m in accordance with the “MIL-STD 810F Method516.5-Shock” test standard. In addition to reinforcing the exterior of the camera with shock-resistant material, the DMC-TS3 uses folded optics to prevent its lens unit from taking damage when dropped during operation.

All components including the lens unit are re-examined to endure the temperature as low as -10 degrees C to make the DMC-TS3 freezeproof.

28mm Wide-Angle Lens

The 28mm wide-angle lens lets you easily capture large groups of people indoors or expansive architectural structures and scenes with dynamic width and rich perspective, even from short distances.

4.6x Optical Zoom / 6x Intelligent Zoom / 9.1x Extra Optical Zoom

The DMC-TS3 features a 4.6x optical zoom lens (35mm camera equivalent: 28-128mm). This gives you highly natural expressions from people and animals that you can’t get close to. The 4.6x optical zoom can be increased its power to 6x equivalent with the Intelligent Zoom function. Furthermore, the Extra Optical Zoom function that extends zoom power to 9.1x by using the center part of the large CCD brings subjects even closer. The zoom also functions when shooting movies.

6x Intelligent Zoom

The Intelligent Resolution technology realizes the Intelligent Zoom, which virtually extends the optical zoom ratio to its 1.3x equivalent (approx.) maintaining the picture quality even combining the digital zoom. This means the 4.6x optical can virtually extend to 6x.

Newly Developed 12.1-Megapixel Hi-Speed CCD

The newly developed 12.1-megapixel CCD with 2-channel signal output structure boasts higher signal transfer speed for the operations that require high performance and speed such as 1,920 x 1,080 full HD movie recording and high speed continuous shooting. 1920 x 1080 Full HD Movie in AVCHD Format

According to the rise of movie recording popularity, digital cameras are now more compatible with it. The DMC-TS3 has recording capability of full HD 1,920 x 1,080 movies in AVCHD format. The AVCHD format features almost doubling the recording time in HD quality compared with conventional Motion JPEG. In addition, a host of options enhance the usability and fun of recording high quality full HD movie. The DMC-TS3 offers versatile ways of recording memories not only in beautiful photo but also in high quality movie with ultimate ease of operation in virtually all shooting situations. The DMC-TS3 also features Intelligent Resolution technology. Rather than uniformly enhanced sharpness, Intelligent Resolution precisely optimizes signal processing to give the entire image outstandingly natural clarity and fine detail. As a result, images are naturally clear and crisp in movies as well as in photos.

Built-in GPS (Global Positioning System)

With the DMC-TS3, it is possible to use the GPS (Global Positioning System) function to record data on the shooting location. You can view images for each geographical location by using the included software PHOTOfunSTUDIO 6.1 HD Lite Edition to manage the images by date and location.

Lumix Image Uploader

The DMC-TS3 gives you a new form of communication by letting you share your photos and movies. All you have to do is checkmark the photos and movies you want to share and connect the camera or SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card to a computer. Uploading automatically starts by simply following the guidance. Facebook can be used for photos and YouTube for movies. You can join these social networking services without having to install any special software. It’s easy to share photos and movies on the spot, which means that your friends don’t have to wait for you to come back home to see them.

Included Software

The PHOTOfunSTUDIO 6.1 HD Lite Edition and Super LoiLoScope (trial version), which are well suited for playing and editing movies, come bundled with the DMC-TS3. The PHOTOfunSTUDIO 6.1 HD Lite Edition lets you sort and organize images that were newly taken and also those that have been stored in a computer, with quick start-up and fast image loading. Movie clips can be uploaded directly to YouTube. And the Super LoiloScope lets you experience high-speed HD movie editing.

POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) – Shake Detection

Everyone has had an experience of taking a photo at night and hoping to capture all the memories and beauty, only to be disappointed at the poor result. Panasonic has worked on the low-frequency vibration hand-shake component, which is physically generated when pressing the shutter button or when shooting at night with a slow shutter speed. The POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) nearly doubles the hand-shake correction power of conventional MEGA O.I.S. You get bright photos without blurring even from handheld shooting at slow shutter speeds.

3D Photo Mode

The 3D Photo Mode produces a 3D image in the camera. The image-processing method used by LUMIX records beautiful images with less distortion or visible image links. Take 20 panning shots and the camera automatically selects the two most suitable images – one for the right eye and one for the left eye – to synthesize a 3D composite. The 3D image can be viewed on a VIERA HDTV. The 3D image format is compatible with MPO, so it can be played back on other MPO-compatible equipment such as TVs and digital photo frames, or printed.
